Draper Laboratory is a not-for-profit research and development laboratory focused on the design, development and deployment of advanced technological solutions for our nation’s most challenging and important problems in security, space exploration, healthcare and energy.
The 2008 annual report focused on showcasing the technical solutions to a number of challenging national problems and the significant progress in transitioning other solutions to operational use.
One example highlighted was the need to improve energy efficiency, lowering our dependence on foreign oil and help reducing greenhouses gases. Draper is solving this by working with several power companies to apply sensors and controls to improve the efficiency of coal-based systems thus reducing greenhouse gases by several billion tons a year.
